High speed multi-camera machine vision controller reduces costs

Designed for the inspection of multiple features of a part or assembly, the high speed GEVA 400 self-contained industrial vision controller from Teledyne DALSA utilises multiple cameras to drive down production costs.

Four Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) compliant Gigabit cameras can be connected directly, with the option of adding further cameras using commercially available network technologies to further reduce system costs for larger configurations.

Speed is a critical factor in many production line inspection applications across all industry segments. The GEVA 400 imaging functions are powered by the latest Intel quad-core ATOM architecture, operating at 1.8 GHz with 4 GB program memory and 256 GB SSD storage.

Vision solutions are provided through fully embedded versions of Teledyne DALSA’s highly respected iNspect or Sherlock 64-bit software applications. Both of these offer a wide selection of tools for positioning, identification, verification, measurement, and flaw detection. iNspect software features a simple point and click interface and requires little or no prior vision experience, while Sherlock offers greater flexibility to tackle more challenging inspection tasks.

Each of the four Gigabit compliant camera ports internally connect through independent data lanes to speed up image data transfer by alleviating the bandwidth bottlenecks often associated with multi-camera acquisition. Each network camera port can be expanded using external Ethernet switches to accommodate larger non-PoE camera configurations.

The GEVA 400 camera ports are compatible with a wide range of high and low resolution, mono or colour area scan GigE cameras, including Teledyne DALSA's industry leading Genie Nano GigE.

With applications in a wide variety of different industries, flexible factory communication options are essential.

GEVA 400 provides standard external interfaces for system integration, including VGA and HDMI display ports for direct connect display with high resolution, 4 USB ports for setup and run-time control and 2 Gigabit Ethernet communication ports and an RS-232 serial port for 3rd party interfacing. Camera triggering, I/O and lighting control are supported using a companion breakout module.
