Kardex has delivered a high-density automated intralogistics system for Codale Electric Supply’s new central distribution center (CDC) in Las Vegas, enabling the consolidation of three previously separate regional operations into a single facility.
The project supports Codale’s post-acquisition integration following Sonepar’s 2023 purchase of NEDCO, bringing Codale, QED, and NEDCO inventory operations under one roof while maintaining high service levels for local electrical contractors. The CDC handles both regional brand replenishment and high-volume same-day Will Call orders.
Due to severe space constraints near the Las Vegas Strip, Kardex designed a compact goods-to-person solution based on AutoStore™ technology, controlled by Kardex FulfillX Warehouse Execution Software. Within approximately 5,500 square feet of grid space, the system stores nearly 9,700 SKUs while enabling rapid inventory access.

FulfillX acts as the execution layer for the facility, coordinating inbound storage, order sequencing, picking, packing, and outbound flows in real time. The software dynamically balances workloads across workstations, allowing simultaneous processing of replenishment orders and Will Call requests. Integrated cartonization logic selects optimal box sizes per order, reducing corrugated material usage and freight costs.
Operator workflows are supported by the Kardex Intuitive Picking Assistant (IPA), which provides visual, step-by-step picking guidance. This reduces training time, improves ergonomics, and helps maintain consistent picking accuracy. Since commissioning, the CDC has achieved a 12% increase in standard order throughput and a 20% reduction in Will Call processing time.
The modular AutoStore architecture allows the system to scale through the addition of robots and ports as demand increases. According to Kardex, the Las Vegas installation is intended to serve as a standardized automation template for future Sonepar distribution centers across North America.
