300mm Semiconductor Manufacturing Comes Online in North Texas
Texas Instruments has begun production at its newest 300mm semiconductor manufacturing facility in Sherman, Texas, approximately three and a half years after construction began. The facility, known as SM1, marks a significant expansion of the company’s U.S.-based manufacturing footprint and was formally opened with participation from company leadership and state and local officials.
The fab will ramp production in line with customer demand and is designed to produce tens of millions of chips per day. These components are used across a wide range of applications, including consumer electronics, automotive systems, medical devices, industrial automation, smart home products, and data centers.
Strengthening U.S. Foundational Semiconductor Capacity
Texas Instruments manufactures analog and embedded processing semiconductors that are essential to most modern electronic systems. As demand for electronics continues to grow across industries, the company is expanding its 300mm manufacturing capacity to support long-term supply requirements.
By owning and operating its manufacturing facilities, process technologies, and packaging operations, TI aims to maintain greater control over its supply chain and ensure continuity of production under varying market conditions.
Sherman Mega-Site Development Plans
The Sherman site has been designed as a large-scale manufacturing hub, with plans for up to four connected wafer fabs to be built and equipped as market demand evolves. At full development, the site is expected to support up to 3,000 direct jobs, along with additional employment in related support industries.
Part of a Broader U.S. Manufacturing Investment
TI’s Sherman facility is part of a broader investment plan to deploy more than $60 billion across seven semiconductor fabs in Texas and Utah. This program represents the largest investment in foundational semiconductor manufacturing in U.S. history.
With 15 manufacturing sites globally, Texas Instruments continues to rely on vertically integrated operations to support customers with long-term, high-volume semiconductor supply.
