Delta Presents Smart Manufacturing with Integrated IIoT and Robot Solutions at Hannover Messe 2017
Delta, a world-class provider of industrial automation solutions, showcases its growing capabilities towards smart manufacturing with its innovative Integrated IIoT and Robot Workstation and a broader diversified portfolio of cutting-edge industrial automation products at Hannover Messe 2017. The aforementioned Workstation integrates Delta’s 6-axis articulated robot solution, superior IIoT and machine vision technology as well as the new Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to enable time and resource-efficient customized ordering and production. Key highlights include the new Industrial 3G/WAN VPN Router DX-3001 Series which provides effective, stable and secure industrial communication via both 3G and wireless Ethernet connections, and the compact, high-performance AC Servo Drive ASDA-A3 Series offering vibration elimination algorithm for advanced machines and motion systems as well as size reduction versus similar products.
Years of efforts for the development towards factory and manufacturing monitoring, management, and visualization, as well as IIoT and cloud technology, have brought Delta closer to realizing smart manufacturing. Our value-added offering at Hannover 2017 includes:
- The Integrated IIoT and Robot Workstation live demo is a customer-centric, IIoT-based, fully-automated solution to produce customized engraved names on business card holders for visitors. It adopts 1) Delta’s new Articulated Robot DRV90L Series to perform pick-and-place and laser carving on the customized gifts, 2) our Equipment Data Acquisition Platform DIALink to acquire operation details then uploaded to the MES for process monitoring, 3) our machine vision system, DMV1000 series, capable of identifying workpiece position accuracy, 4) our new area sensors enabling “no dead zone” to immediately pause robot operation in case of any sudden human or object access, thus, ensuring a secure environment and 5) the new MES system for ordering and scheduling flexible production.
The MES system, linked to a cloud platform, allows customers to place orders for the customized names through a laptop PC, and provides immediate confirmation via SMS including a weblink to monitor production scheduling and progress in real-time. The articulated robot will execute precise pick-and-place and laser carving on the gifts according to the orders. Order adjustment and production rescheduling for urgent orders can also be realized through the MES system for flexible and interchangeable production. Upon production process completion, customers will receive confirmation via SMS and will proceed to pick up their ordered products.
This workstation demonstrates Delta’s unique capabilities to achieve flexible production by connecting customers, equipment, and production management and visualization through the integration of smart automation solutions, complete robot workstations, IIoT technology, MES systems and cloud platforms.

- For future smart manufacturing, Delta also presents its brand new Industrial 3G/WAN VPN Router DX-3001 Series. The DX-3001 Series supports 3G communication and at the same time provides various connection method over WAN ports, offering flexible industrial communication for customers. It features dual SIM redundancy design and can be a seamless switch among ISP systems for continuous network connection. The firewalls (SPI, DoS, NAT, port triggering, port mapping, IP address / MAC / URL filtering) provide high protection to industrial data transmission. This device taps into the benefits derived from highly efficient and secure industrial network communication and data transmission by VPN tunnels.
- The Delta ASDA-A3 Series AC Servo Drive is designed for applications that require high-speed response, great accuracy and remarkable smooth motion. Its built-in motion functions are perfect for flying cut, rotary table, E-Cam and more applications. The ASDA-A3 Series, with 3.1 kHz frequency response and 24-bit resolution absolute type encoder, can increase its capability of response. The notch filters for resonance and vibration suppression function facilitate the smooth operation of the machine, and will be demonstrated at Delta’s booth to showcase the benefits that come with the function. The user-friendly software with graphic interface and auto tuning function minimizes the commissioning time and simplifies the implementation process. The compact design of ASDA-A3 Series servo drive and its motors greatly reduces the mounting space for easier arrangement in control cabinet. The ASDA-A3 Series offers an exceptional user experience and optimizes the motion system for your equipment.
- The Compact Modular Mid-range PLC AS Series is Delta’s new modular-design controller for advanced automation machinery. With new 32 bit SoC (System on Chip) CPUs, the AS Series is excellent in performance with program capacity of 40k steps/ms and supports up to 32 extension modules or max. 1,024 I/O points. It is able to control max. 8 axes via CANopen motion network / max. 6 axes via pulse control (200kHz). It also supports the EtherNet/IP and various communication protocols for industrial applications.
