Tsurumi Powers Wastewater at Historic California Resort

Originally established in the 1880s, this historical resort was once a lively gathering place for ranchers, cowboys, and celebrities during the prohibition era. Now, after a complete transformation, it has reopened as a destination resort in California.

As the resort underwent renovations, its owners needed a wastewater treatment solution that fit into their timeline and budget, all while meeting California’s environmental regulations. To meet this goal, Tsurumi Pump, in partnership with Enereau, delivered a Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) system equipped with Tsurumi VANCS™ submersible resin pumps, BER submersible jet aspirating aerators, MG semi vortex grinder pumps, and guiderails.

The MBR system was designed as turnkey prefabricated modules, as the tank was shipped to the resort with Tsurumi equipment preinstalled, saving time and money on construction. Once on site, the below ground bioreactor tank was connected to an above ground membrane filtration unit to complete the system.

The system allows wastewater to flow into the collection sump after primary treatment. Tsurumi MG grinder pumps handle solids in the collection of the sump, transferring the material to the MBR. Inside the MBR, VANCS pumps recirculate the medium, also known as mixed liquor. During this process, BER aerators provide oxygen to support aerobic bacteria. The treated water (permeate) then flows to a clean water tank where a VANCS pump system discharges the water into a subsurface distribution system or through a diversion valve for onsite irrigation. Together, these components support the wastewater treatment process that meets California’s stringent Title 22 standards for water reuse.

The system has been in operation since 2021 and proven to be a dependable and cost-effective solution. With minimal maintenance and reliable performance, the installation exemplifies how packaged treatment systems can meet modern demands. The resort’s wastewater treatment system continues to operate without interruption, contributing to the ongoing success of the business.
