Efficiency redefined: Jungheinrich presents the new reach truck series ETV 2i
Jungheinrich presents its latest innovation in the reach truck sector: The ETV 2i series is specially designed for customers looking for the highest quality and flexibility at economical conditions.
Jungheinrich is presenting its new reach truck series ETV 2i at LogiMAT 2024. The innovative lithium-ion truck has been specially developed for light to medium-duty applications. The main target group are customers whose operating requirements amount to around five operating hours per day or less. The ETV 214i and ETV 216i models offer load capacities of 1,400 kg and 1,600 kg respectively up to a maximum lift height of 10,700 mm. The new ETV 2i series is deliberately designed for cost as well as energy efficiency. Jungheinrich has developed a completely new drive system for its latest generation of reach trucks, with a new drive motor, gearbox and drive wheel as well as a new generation of inverters also developed inhouse by Jungheinrich. "Our new ETV 2i series was developed as a cost-effective solution for customers who attach great importance to quality, robustness and customisation options, but at the same time do not need a high-performance truck for two-shift operation and more due to its low operating density," says Jungheinrich Board Member for Sales Christian Erlach. "We based the development of the ETV 2i series on an extensive data analysis of around 14,000 real customer deployments of our reach trucks. The data shows that, in practice, vehicles with oversized capacities are used in many applications today. We have taken this insight into account with our new reach trucks from the ETV 2i series. They are particularly efficient and offer the best Jungheinrich quality with maximum safety and user-friendliness as well as the usual wide range of options at unbeatably attractive purchase costs," says Erlach.
The ETV 2i series has an integrated lithium-ion battery as standard, which – thanks to its fast and intermediate charging capabilities and its maintenance-free nature – enables particularly flexible operation and thus ensures high truck availability. Jungheinrich offers the trucks in the ETV 2i series with two battery options. Capacities of either 230 Ah or 460 Ah are available. "With the 230 Ah lithium-ion battery, we can offer our customers the ETV series 2i trucks at a similar price level of a conventional reach truck with a lead-acid battery. This means that lithium-ion technology has arrived on the mass market for reach trucks," says Erlach. This is not only sustainable, but also has a positive impact on operating costs. Jungheinrich trucks with lithium-ion batteries consume around 20 per cent less energy in use than lead-acid trucks.
In the standard version, the reach trucks of the ETV 2i series have an L2 dimension of 1278 mm and are therefore significantly shorter than conventional reach trucks with the same residual load capacity. This means that the new vehicles can also be used safely and efficiently in narrow aisles with a width from 2775 mm. The ETV 214i with 230 Ah battery is also available with an optional L2 dimension of 1178, which is a further 100 mm shorter. This makes it the most compact reach truck in its class and suitable for use in particularly confined warehouse environments.
With its new reach truck series, Jungheinrich is also setting new standards in terms of comfort. This is made possible by the space-saving lithium-ion battery. Jungheinrich has lowered the footwell plate of the ETV 2i series including the driver's platform by 10 cm compared to its predecessor models, making entry and exit considerably more ergonomic. Overall, the ETV 2i series has significantly more space for drivers. The cockpit of the new vehicles is characterised by two different seats with a wide range of options, easily accessible controls and practical storage options. The steering wheel and armrest can each be adjusted separately and without effort. As all functions can be sensitively controlled with the tried-and-tested soloPILOT, the ETV 2i is able to work with millimetre precision. It can also be used to control attachments such as an optional fork positioner.
Safety also played a special role for Jungheinrich in the development of the ETV 2i series. Thanks to its compact design and low battery height, the truck offers improved all-round visibility, which minimises the risk of accidents during operation. As an option, a Floor Spot can be integrated into the overhead guard to improve the visibility of the vehicle. Further equipment also includes an LED light strip around the vehicle roof. The new safety feature called SmartStripe has functions such as daytime running lights, indicators and brake lights. In future, it will also be possible to display the charge level and various warning messages directly on the light strip.
Jungheinrich is also focussing on individual adaptability with the ETV 2i: the truck can be tailored to the customer's specific requirements with a wide range of options. These include the option of a panoramic protective roof, a digital fork-lift camera, seat height adjustment and – for the first time in this segment – a fully integrated charger.
Looking to the future, Jungheinrich announced the launch of the new high-performance reach truck series ETV 3i for the most intensive warehouse applications with high lifting heights and heavy loads in continuous operation in 2025. These reach trucks will have higher load capacities and lift heights as well as higher travel and lift speeds than the ETV 2i series to meet the needs of more demanding applications in high-performance use. For this purpose, Jungheinrich will be adding 690 Ah lithium-ion batteries to the battery portfolio in this series.
