Rollon Explains the importance of adding a Robot Transfer Unit to Your System to unlock Your Robot’s Full Mobility

As manufacturing becomes more automated, six-axis robots are gaining popularity on the factory floor. Increasingly, multiple six-axis robots perform consecutive operations on the same assembly line. In these applications, adding a seven-axis linear actuator — also known as a robot transfer unit (RTU) — can boost your productivity, efficiency and cost savings.

Rollon Explains the importance of adding a Robot Transfer Unit to Your System to unlock Your Robot’s Full Mobility

Rollon offers a full range of RTUs to satisfy the needs of most any automated manufacturing environment. For example, our Seventh Axis systems are lightweight with aluminum profiles, making them well-suited for shuttling smaller robots. For larger robots and heavy-duty operations, Rollon-iMS is pleased to offer Robot Transfer Units with steel construction.

We designed our Robot Transfer Units so that a six-axis robot can mount directly to the carriage. Not only can a robot work multiple stations, it also has a larger range of motion. This design also lets you implement smaller, less-expensive robots to perform the same amount of work as larger robots. As a result, one robot can service more machines and processes versus multiple stationary robots, creating a more efficient system that reduces capital costs.

Another benefit of robot transfer systems is that they are versatile and adaptable for a wide range of automated applications in many industries. Rollon-iMS RTUs feature leveling feet as standard, and the units can be mounted to the floor, ceiling or walls so that a six-axis robot can be positioned optimally for the task. Optional accessories include cable carriers and proximity sensors.

Options for Seventh Axis systems include cable carriers, safety systems and other accessories. Ask your Rollon representative about additional options for harsh environments, such as walkable covers and corrosion-resistant components available for certain models.

Select systems also offer cable carriers as standard. Highlights of Rollon-iMS RTUs include:

  • High load capacity. RTUs allow for static loads over 100 pounds (45.360 kilograms) and support for industrial robots with payloads up to 4.4 pounds (2.0 kilograms).
  • Diversity. Rollon-iMS RTUs, for example, can move any production robot from UR-3 to Fanuc M-2000.
  • Easy implementation. Choose from standard multi-axis configurations or create application-specific designs and assemble them quickly and easily.
  • High accuracy. Large servo driven rack and pinion systems ensure precise positioning.
  • Robust construction. RTUs feature steel and aluminum profiles.

Boost Your Bottom Line
Our robot transfer systems are designed to help maximize the mobility and utility of any six-axis robot in a manufacturing environment, whether you need to support lightweight robots or heavy-duty loads. Rollon-iMS steel and aluminum RTUs enable a single, mobile six-axis robot to do the work of multiple stationary robots, so you can enhance the efficiency and bottom line of your operations. We can also help create a custom robot transfer unit design to meet the needs of your assembly line.
