SLIM 5-AXIS VISE WITH TOOL-FREE JAW QUICK-CHANGE AND ACTIVE PULL-DOWN FUNCTION FOR PRECISE MACHINING OF THE SIXTH SIDE

For those who believe that the potential for innovation in stationary clamping systems has long since been tapped out, it is high time to have a look at SCHUNK. With the 5-axis vise KONTEC KSX-C2, the gripping systems and clamping equipment specialist is continuing its success story with the KSX family and providing new momentum for high-precision 6-sided machining. The first thing that catches the eye is the upwardly tapered external contour, which improves accessibility with standard tools.

Taking a closer look, its myriad of additional advantages makes the new generation scores even more points. With its active pull-down function, the KONTEC KSX-C2 achieves excellent results in plane parallelism and perpendicularity, creating the ideal conditions for demanding 6-sided machining. The vise with adjustable center also sets the benchmark when it comes to set-up times. Due to a tool-free jaw quick-change system, reversal jaws for increasing the clamping range and a basic clamping stroke of 130 mm – which is unique on the market – the vise can be quickly and precisely converted to fit a new range of parts. A wide range of quick-change jaws is available for this purpose. In addition, it is also possible to increase the clamping range using a standardized draw bar extension.

Integrated elastomer damping

The clamping forces of the KONTEC KSX-C2 can be continuously adjusted using a torque wrench. A maximum of 40 kN with a torque of 120 Nm is possible. Not only does this 6-sided professional tool offer plenty of power for a secure hold – even with minimal clamping surfaces – it also offers measured forces for clamping sensitive parts. The long guidance system and the arrangement of the clamping mechanism also ensure a rigid, dimensionally stable set-up. During machining, an integrated elastomer damping system absorbs the vibrations that occur, which is beneficial for the surface quality of the workpieces and the cutting edge of the tool. Both the drive and the adjustment mechanism of the 5-axis vise are completely encapsulated, protecting them against chips, dirt, and coolant.

Extensive standard range

Right from the start, the maintenance-free SCHUNK KONTEC KSX-C2 is available in four basic body lengths (330 mm, 430 mm, 500 mm, 630 mm, 800 mm), each at two heights (175 mm, 214 mm). It fits seamlessly into the modular system for highly efficient workpiece clamping from SCHUNK. In conjunction with the quick-change pallet system, the SCHUNK VERO-S can be exchanged on the machine table in seconds, with maximum repeat accuracy. The clamping pins required for this are mounted directly in the base body of the 5-axis vise without the use of an adapter plate. Since the clamping is carried out under tension, there is virtually zero bending load on the base body even when using the quick-change pallet systems.
