Premiere for "nexy": the network for cable-free communication in production and intralogistics
At the LogiMAT 2019, the steute business unit "Wireless" launched its cable-free communication network "nexy".
Under this new umbrella brand, steute now provides hard and software solutions for the acquisition, transmission and management of sensor data within the Internet of Things (IoT). Its focus will be on energy-efficient wireless transmission and evaluation of sensor data. The nexy development is based on the low-power wireless network sWave.NET, also developed by steute. Its uses to date include simplified communication with AGV fleets and mobile eKanban systems, as well as their integration in superordinate IT systems. Via Access Points and a "Sensor Bridge", an easy-to-configure middleware, uninterrupted communication is guaranteed between the sensors and the company IT.
The proprietary wireless protocol developed especially for these applications provides specific benefits, such as a sleep mode with an instant "wake-up" function, as well as extremely low power consumption.
Now steute is taking the next step and opening up its wireless network for other wireless technologies and hardware components. Andreas Schenk, Product Manager Wireless: "If an application demands, for example, the integration of sensors for measurands, these sensors can be fitted with an sWave.NET module and are then completely network-compatible."
This widens the range of applications and potential for expansion of the wireless network considerably, an important goal for steute in its development of the nexy platform.
The introduction of nexy also means changes to the steute "Wireless" business model and a strengthening of the business unit's engineering team. Andreas Schenk: "On the basis of our wireless platform, we design and create cable-free communication solutions especially adapted to suit the individual needs of our customers.
Our goal is to increase the efficiency and stability of company processes and to improve communication in digitalised production and intralogistics. Since assembly and logistics equipment is also becoming increasingly mobile, as shown by the examples AGV and eKanban, wireless-based solutions are the only option in this field."
