Proposed EPA/NHTS Rollbacks, Automotive Innovation and Autodesk
At Autodesk, we have confidence in the automobile industry’s ability to continue to innovate on fuel efficiency
The Environmental Protection Agency and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a joint proposed rule to replace the fuel economy and tailpipe emission standards set by the Obama Administration for automobiles. While the proposed rule solicits comment on multiple alternatives, their preferred alternative would freeze average fuel economy standards for model years 2021-2026 at 2020 levels. The proposal would also revoke the State of California’s waiver to set its own automobile greenhouse gas emission standards under the Clean Air Act. California’s standards have been adopted by 12 other states and the District of Columbia.
At Autodesk, we have confidence in the automobile industry’s ability to continue to innovate on fuel efficiency, meet and exceed existing CAFÉ (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards, and gain competitive advantage. We will continue to support automotive customers with design and engineering technology that helps them drive more innovation, achieve better fuel efficiency, with less emissions – thereby improving the health and well-being of people around the world.
We support advanced manufacturing in Detroit and automakers like GM, using generative design and automotive lightweighting techniques to create lighter, safer and more fuel-efficient vehicles.
