Eaton expands notification devices for fire alarm systems to meet latest code requirements for sleeping areas
Power management company Eaton today announced the expansion of its Wheelock Exceder LED3 technology with new high candela, low frequency sounder strobes for sleeping areas. New models feature a 177 candela setting and are designed to meet both the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) fire alarm and carbon monoxide 520 Hertz (Hz) code requirements for sleeping areas.
With the new 177 candela models, Eaton now offers both low (110 cd) and high candela (177 cd) low frequency sounder strobes to meet the different ceiling height requirements for sleeping areas for hotel and motel guest rooms, apartment buildings, college and university dormitories, and assisted living facilities.
“Eaton is committed to providing our customers with highly energy efficient technology with low current draw, which can provide substantial overall fire alarm system cost savings,” said Huyenchau Villas, product manager, Eaton. “In addition to offering both high and low candela models, Eaton’s Exceder LED3 low frequency sounder line allows organizations to meet both sleeping room codes – NFPA 72 and NFPA 720 – with one device, which features two different sound patterns, T3 for fire detection and T4 for carbon monoxide.”
The Exceder LED3 low frequency sounders and sounder strobes can replace a facility’s existing appliances, using the same pair of wires currently installed and offering a simple retrofit to meet new codes for sleeping rooms.
Like the entire Wheelock Exceder LED3 product line, the low frequency sounder strobes have been UL/ULC listed as compatible with all fire alarm control panels (FACP) and accessories that have been determined to be compatible with Wheelock RSS strobe-based products. The listing also includes the ability to install the Exceder LED3 strobes in the same notification zone and field of view with any Wheelock RSS strobe model. Additionally, in a sleek, modern, low-profile design, the low-frequency sounder strobes utilize LEDs as the light source, resulting in best-in-class efficiency that enables material and system cost savings, allowing for a greater number of appliances on the notification appliance circuit and fewer power supplies.
Eaton provides integrated, advanced technology and code-compliant solutions for life safety and mass notification, providing critical emergency communications for higher education, industrial, commercial, government and military markets.
