Reinventing the conductive wheel and castor

To reduce the likelihood of unexpected electrostatic discharges when transporting goods, norelem UK has added electrically conductive equivalents of its existing range of wheels and castors to its extensive product range.

Reinventing the conductive wheel and castor
When transporting equipment the build-up of electrostatic charges has the potential to cause a number of issues, including damage to equipment and harm to personnel. In certain cases, where there is an increased risk of explosion, the presence electrostatic charges raises a number of potential issues and should be avoided at all costs. While components offer a maximum ohmic resistence of 104 Ω, these should still be subject to periodic checks for dirt and any other items which may hamper electro-conductive performance.

Suitable for use in trolley applications across a number of sectors including automotive, medical, and electronics and semiconductors, the wheels and castors offer protection from electrostatic discharges that can be generated while goods are in transit.

The norelem range of castors now includes equipment castors, standard steel plate castors and heavy-duty steel plate castors, each one with a brake function and a total load bearing capacity of between 30 and 160kg, depending on the model. The design also features a yellow spot between the tread and the wheel which indicates that the components are suitable for conducting electricity. The castors also feature a high quality grey thermoplastic rubber elastomer tread that leaves no marks on floors. The wheels are available in a range of standard sizes, with diameters ranging from 50 to 200mm.

Marcus Schneck, CEO of norelem, explained: “Static electricity in trolley applications can be problematic, meaning there is a real demand for solutions which reduce or eliminate its build up. We pride ourselves on delivering solutions which address the engineering challenges of our customers, and in further expanding our range to include electrically conductive wheels and castors, we are further strengthening our position as a single point supplier of standard components.”
