Siemens presents electrical specifiers and installers with the first 3-Pole Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs) for enhancing electrical safety in commercial facilities. Offering ampacities of up to 100 A for powering large equipment loads in commercial workspaces, these UL and cUL-listed 3-pole interrupters are the first to deliver 5-milliamp sensitivity for helping protect personnel from electrocution hazards in accordance with the latest National Electrical Code® (NEC) requirements.
Expanded in 2023, NEC Article 210.8(B) specifies that all receptacles on 3-pole branch circuits 150 volts or less, up to 100 amps, require Class A GFCIs to help protect personnel from electrical hazards. For ampacities exceeding 50 amperes, this often required that electrical professionals develop complex and costly solutions using multiple devices to protect 3-pole circuits. Siemens’ new 3-pole GFCIs enable engineers, electricians, and distributors to deliver critical safety functionality using just one agency-listed, NEC-compliant device that is easy to specify, procure, install, and test.
The new 3-pole GFCIs streamline procurement, deployment, and use in multiple ways. Conventional GFCIs rely on measured differences in current-in/current-out and can thus be subject to nuisance tripping from imbalanced loads, resulting in unnecessary power disruptions to workplace equipment. Siemens 3-Pole GFCIs are insensitive to power imbalances between poles, and thus can reduce nuisance tripping to increase reliability and uptime in commercial applications. Recommended for installation by licensed electricians, Siemens 3-Pole GFCIs can also be installed on 2-pole circuits to further simplify procurement and installation logistics.
Siemens 3-Pole GFCIs are listed to UL 943 for Class A applications where 5 milliamp imbalance sensitivity is required to protect personnel, and to UL 1053 for equipment protection applications requiring 30 milliamp sensitivity. In addition, these interrupters carry a 65kA fault current rating, making them suitable for the widest range of protection applications. Compatible with all Siemens XQD circuit breaker accessories, Siemens 3-Pole GFCIs can be mounted on panels and DIN-rails, and can be configured for cable-in/cable-out applications using available NEMA 1 indoor and NEMA 3R outdoor enclosures.
