Seco Tools held a Grand Opening for the New Production Unit in Mexico to Support the Future Manufacturing Growth

Seco Tools, a world leader in cutting tool manufacturing, opened a new production unit (PU) in Ramos Arizpe in Coahuila, Mexico. Special cutting tools and standard tools will be manufactured in this plant to meet the expected industrial growth in Mexico, as well as supply cutting tool products throughout the globe.

Around 250 people attended the grand opening celebration of the new PU, located in the 360 Industrial Park Complex, including customers, business partners, Seco Tools Mexico staff, top executives from the United States and Sweden, and local authorities who participated in the ribbon cutting.

José María Morales, mayor of Ramos Arizpe, pointed out that "the new PU strengthens the conditions of labor and economic stability of the municipality." He also commented that Seco's sustainability and environmental culture, as well as its human approach, will be an example for the region.

Claudio Bres Garza, secretary of the Government of Coahuila, offered full support to the new production unit, saying "We welcome Seco with open arms and with all the interest to support them to achieve their growth."

Stefan Steenstrup, President of Seco Tools, said that the decision over the location of this new PU was the correct one. During his speech, he commented that they visited several clients in the Mexican territory and "everyone spoke to us about future growth. There is a lot of optimism in the market about bigger plants, more machines, and more work coming to Mexico."

Seco Tools technological contribution to this growth will be significant. Curt Hassan, Mexico Managing Director, explained that “one of the most important things we do when opening a PU is technology transfer. We’re able to utilize the expertise of QCT and the manufacturing technology advantages of Seco Tools.”

Leading in sustainability standards is also significant for Seco Tools. The production unit has solar cells in its parking area that provide 50% of the energy for the PU. Stefan Frölander, VP of Global Operation at Seco Tools, commented, “It is the first step, and we will continue evaluating and validating the production unit in terms of sustainability according to corporate standards.”

During the ceremony, Robert Keenan, Americas Global Sales Director, commented that this journey began more than ten years ago when they decided to reinforce their operations in Mexico with technical and commercial representation. “We know how important it is to be close to the customer and understand the value of local service. We could manufacture the tools in other countries, but we must consider waiting for delivery or engineering.” Keenan stated, “We are proud to be in Mexico and we are proud to take the next step in this journey.”
