Emerson Announces Recipients of 2021 ASCO Engineering Scholarship Program
Merit-based scholarships invest in students' leadership potential and vision for the future
Emerson has announced the recipients of its 2021 ASCO™ Engineering Scholarship Program, continuing its long-standing commitment to rewarding and supporting students dedicated to innovating the future through a career in engineering. The recipients are Jessica Ruby of Holland Township, New Jersey, a senior mechanical engineering student at The College of New Jersey, and Kolin Limburg of Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, a senior majoring in building automation engineering at the Pennsylvania College of Technology. Emerson awarded each student a $5,000 scholarship and granted an additional $1,000 to the engineering department of each of their colleges.
"With each new generation, as we refine our priorities and vision for a brighter future, we must also rededicate our support of tomorrow's innovators and workforce,” said Jenny Lenhard, president, Americas and industrial automation for fluid and motion control at Emerson. “At Emerson, our commitment includes a strong program of ongoing global STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) initiatives — including the ASCO Engineering Scholarships. Congratulations to Jessica and Kolin as our 2021 scholarship recipients — and for their commitment to a better tomorrow.”
To date, Emerson has awarded $168,000 in scholarships and grants through its ASCO Engineering Scholarship Program, supporting 28 outstanding engineering students and their institutions of higher education.
Ms. Ruby is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, with an expected graduation date of May 2022. Her excellence in mathematics in school led her to pursue a career in engineering. "I knew that entering a STEM field as a young woman would be challenging, but it’s where I’m meant to be,” said Ruby. “Engineering will allow for me to leave an impact on the world."
Mr. Limburg is a senior in the Building Automation Engineering Program, focusing on the HVAC controls of large facilities, and also expects to graduate in May 2022. "As a society, we are finally recognizing the real importance of infrastructure to our economy and country," Kolin said. "As engineers, we must be sure that the advancements we make will truly improve the future through energy management and conservation. I find that opportunity very exciting."
For the past 14 years, Emerson has opened its ASCO Engineering Scholarship Program to U.S. citizens and legal U.S. residents. Applicants must have completed their sophomore year in a bachelor's degree program or be enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited U.S. educational institution at the time of application.
