NORD Gear Corp. Expands North American Headquarters to Meet Customer Demands
Over the past five years, NORD has seen phenomenal growth in overall production and sales; in North America alone, the company has more than doubled. To accommodate the facility’s increased demands, NORD has begun remodeling and expanding all areas of the Waunakee site. The expansion plans include constructing 55,000 square feet of additional manufacturing space to the existing facility. “The planned improvements for each department here at NORD is anticipated to increase and improve the quality, efficiency and lead times that we offer our customers,” said Mark Jones, Vice President of Engineering & Marketing. “This substantial renovation offers numerous benefits as we continue to grow and thrive as a company.”

As part of the expansion project, the entire motor assembly department will be redesigned. This improvement will significantly increase the company’s rotor production capabilities. “By expanding this particular area of operation, we can increase the service to our customers by improving the testing, volume and turnaround standpoints,” said Jones. “Our main goal in this process is to continue to satisfy our customers.”

NORD is expanding its AC drive facility by constructing state-of-the-art testing and demonstration labs. By doing so, it will help us cater to our customer's needs by improving our application development, allowing more substantial product demonstration and bettering our training abilities.

The update to NORD’s machining department includes a greater number of machines on-site. In addition to the increased production capabilities, the updates will also increase the capacity of short lot size shaft production. “This will help us to better serve our customers’ unique needs,” said Jones. “This includes special orders and small-quantity requirements.”

Improvements to NORD’s distribution training facility are an imperative aspect of the site’s overall renovation as NORD provides on-site training for its distributors. After the expansion, the training area will more than double in size. In addition to the increased space, state-of-the-art technologies will also be incorporated into the training process. “We are thrilled to provide the very best and latest in technology,” commented Jones. “We believe it will greatly improve the overall training process that we are able to provide our distributors.” Adjacent to the training facility will be new break rooms and locker rooms for employees.

Because of the expansion’s magnitude, the project is divided into three phases. The first phase, which includes constructing the additional 55,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space, concluded in mid-December. The final touches on the renovation are expected to be completed in May/June 2013. “Our expectations for progress following this expansion are great,” said Jones. “Our overall services and capabilities will improve, in order to grow and further develop into the future.”
