Safer charging with the new CC613 charge controller generation
The growing number of electric vehicles (EV) simultaneously increases the demand for a nationwide charging infrastructure.
An important aspect in this field is AC charging acc. to IEC 61851-1 via the existing private or public 230 V/400 V AC grid. The charge controller used is the brain of an AC charging station, since it is responsible for controlling, monitoring, authorising and billing the EV charging process.
A smart charge controller must, in addition to the above-mentioned functionalities, also provide a certain degree of economic efficiency. Bender has addressed this problem with the new CC613 charge controller generation and significantly expanded the range of functions of its smart CC612 charge controller.
The CC613 features an integrated Ethernet interface that allows the controller to be integrated into an existing network. This enables a networked charging infrastructure to be set up directly, which can also be maintained and controlled remotely. A further innovation is the integrated emergency opener, which safely releases the charging plug lock in case of a voltage failure.
When it comes to electrical safety, the CC613 has been expanded to include a "weld check" function and continuous PE monitoring. With the integrated 230 V control relay, the power contactor can now be controlled directly and therefore no additional relay is necessary. This further reduces the cost of a charging point.
The charge controller also offers an external Modbus interface, which allows connection to a higher-level system (energy management system) for remote control (enabling users, maximum charging current, etc.). Thus, a backend connection is not necessary.
The compact design of the CC613, which is identical to the CC612, is ideal for cost-effective use in small charging stations or wallboxes. Existing charging stations can easily be upgraded to the new CC613 to take advantage of the new features. For interaction with a backend system, the CC613 is compatible the communication protocol OCPP 1.5 and 1.6 (JSON & SOAP).
The CC613 also features the Powerline Communication (PLC) standard according to ISO 15118 for plug & charge and for networking the charge controller with an energy management system. The third generation of the Bender charge controller also offers dynamic load management (DLM), which allows smart and optimum distribution of the available power among all charging points.
The costs of a charging station can be optimised and minimised by means of the integrated DC fault current detection according to IEC 62955, which makes it unnecessary to use an RCD type B. The use of a significantly less expensive RCD type A is sufficient.
