Weidmüller's FieldPower® LED: FieldPower® LED – the robust illumination solution – also ideal for wind turbines. – Energy-efficient basic illumination and a long-lasting service life.
Weidmüller's newly developed FieldPower® LED has been designed for highly efficient and long-term luminous efficacy on the one hand and for deployment in harsh conditions on the other. These design features ensure the FieldPower® LED provides energy-efficient basic illumination in conjunction with an extended service life and facilitate rapid, error-free connection to the power bus. Moreover, this illuminating solution withstands even the harshest of conditions that prevail in the rotor hub of wind turbines, such as extreme shocks and temperatures. Designed to be extremely shock and vibration proof to EN 60721-3-3, Class 3M3 (mechanical conditions) it is possible to operate the FieldPower® LED in temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +55 °C. A wide input range of 110 to 265 V AC ensures it is possible to utilize the FieldPower® LED in applications across the globe. The integrated power LEDs offer a significantly longer service life as well as greater energy efficiency than fluorescent or energy-saving bulbs. Each FieldPower® LED reliably delivers the 10 and 50 lux light levels required by EN 50308: Wind Turbines. A special FieldPower® base facilitates routing pre-assembled and terminated cables into the pitch box with IP65 rating. A lid with integrated LEDs provides illumination inside the hub. The low power consumption of the LEDs results in only a low voltage drop in the cable, a fact that facilitates long power bus supply lines utilising conductor cross-sections of 2.5 mm² to 6 mm². A non-detachable, 2-meter cable from Heluwind (WK 103w-T 3G1.5 – AD 8 mm) is standard supply.
With its FieldPower® LED Weidmüller is introducing a robust illumination solution to the market – including for wind turbines. The new FieldPower® LED offers energy-efficient basic illumination in conjunction with a long service life that users are able to connect to the power bus quickly and without errors. Suitably designed for the harshest of conditions the illumination solution is even able to withstand extreme shocks and temperatures prevalent in the rotor hub of wind turbines. These are characteristics that see the FieldPower® LED able to operate in temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +55 °C and ensure it is extremely shock and vibration proof to EN 60721-3-3, Class 3M3 (mechanical conditions). The wide-range input of 110 to 265 VAC means it is suitable for deployment in applications across the globe. In addition to greater energy efficiency integrated power LEDs offer a significantly longer service life in comparison with fluorescent and energy-saving bulbs. All FieldPower® LEDs luminaires reliably deliver the 10 and 50 lux light levels required by the standard EN 50308: Wind Turbines. Moreover, the low power consumption of the LEDs ensures only a low voltage drop in the power cable, which makes it possible to achieve long power bus supply lines utilising conductor cross-sections of 2.5 mm2 to 6 mm2.
Utilising a special FieldPower® base facilitates routing pre-assembled and terminated cables into the pitch box with IP65 rating. The module can also be utilised as an IP65 rated panel feed-through for three plug cables. That not only saves space but also reduces costs-per-function. A further space-saving feature allows the upper part of the module to be attached to a metal bracket in variety of positions. When used as an individual luminaire or connected in series on the power bus the module is mounted onto the base of the FieldPower® module. In wind turbines, for example, the LED lid provides illumination inside the rotor hub.
FieldPower® offers a uniquely cost-effective solution for wiring the towers of wind turbines, because it is possible to pre-install the power bus segments when the towers are being built. As a result, no trained electrician is required on-site when erecting the wind turbine, because the pre-installed bus segments inside the individual tower sections are simply slotted together. Connecting the power sockets and lighting components by means of pre-assembled and tested connectors is just as straightforward. These rapid on-site installation procedures are practically error-free and are not reliant on suitable ambient temperatures.
All FieldPower® LED luminaires are EMC tested (radio disturbance characteristics to EN 55015, EMC immunity requirements to EN 61547) and are flame resistant to UL 94 V0. Approval to UL 1598 is in preparation.
