Mitsubishi Electric Expands EM-A Series with 400V Sensorless Servo Motor Models

Combining servo-like performance with the simplicity of VFD control, EM-A series motors provide accurate positioning, precise speed regulation, and ultra-premium efficiency.

Mitsubishi Electric Expands EM-A Series with 400V Sensorless Servo Motor Models

Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc., Industrial Automation Division (Mitsubishi Electric US, Industrial Automation), has expanded its EM-A series sensorless servo motor lineup with new 400V models, extending the availability of its high-efficiency motor technology for industrial automation, material handling, HVAC, water and wastewater, and general manufacturing applications. The new 400V offering is available in sizes ranging from 0.4 kW to 7.5 kW and is designed for use with Mitsubishi Electric's FR-E800 and FR-D800 Series variable frequency drives (VFDs).

The EM-A Series combines the efficiency benefits of permanent magnet motor technology with advanced sensorless control capabilities, delivering precise speed regulation and positioning without an encoder. Built around Mitsubishi Electric's proprietary salient-pole motor design, EM-A motors help reduce system complexity, wiring, and maintenance requirements while maintaining performance comparable to many servo-driven applications.

When paired with the FR-E800 Series VFD, EM-A motors provide simple positioning and speed control capabilities without external feedback devices. The combination enables machine builders and end users to achieve accurate positioning, maintain speed variation of ±0.05%, and simplify system architecture by leveraging built-in drive functionality instead of additional motion hardware.

For energy-focused applications, EM-A motors paired with the FR-D800 Series VFD deliver ultra-premium efficiency comparable to IE5-rated motors. The compact motor design can also reduce footprint compared to traditional induction motors while helping lower energy consumption and operating costs.

"The expansion of the EM-A Series to 400V gives customers more flexibility to apply this technology across a broader range of machine types and applications," said Tom Henfling, Product Manager, VFD, Mitsubishi Electric US, Industrial Automation. "Whether the goal is simplifying positioning applications without encoders or improving energy efficiency in pumps and fans, the EM-A platform provides an effective balance of performance, efficiency, and system cost."

The EM-A Series is available in multiple configurations, including brake, keyway shaft, and IP65-rated models. Typical applications include conveyors, crane systems, material handling equipment, pumping systems, irrigation systems, fan applications, and other machinery requiring efficient motor control and dependable speed regulation.
