NXD tupH® Sealed Surface Conversion System
NORD will be featuring the NXD tupH Sealed Surface Conversion System at the show – a state-of-the-art surface treatment for wash-down applications such as those in primary and secondary packaging systems. This molecular conversion process ensures that treated drives have all the protection needed for the most extreme operating environments and conditions. Unlike paint, the high-performance food-grade sealer will not blister, flake, or propagate. Compared to stainless steel, drives treated with NXD tupH offer greater cost effectiveness, weigh less due to their aluminum housings, provide better heat dissipation, and offer more configuration options. NXD tupH is food-compliant, free of chromates and PFAS, and will withstand strong acids and alkalis.
Highly Configurable Gear Units
NORD offers a wide range of configurable gear units for all packaging stages from primary packaging focusing on positioning accuracy and easy-to-clean surfaces to end-of-line packaging with emphasis on performance and load handling. NORDBLOC.1 gear units offer extreme versatility with gearing options including helical inline, helical bevel, single-stage helical, and two-stage helical bevel versions. They reliably handle high axial and radial loads, deliver high efficiency with low operating costs, and offer various shaft options, mounting options, and modular compatibility with NORD’s line of electric motors and electronic control products. The gear units are made from high-strength, lightweight aluminum alloy that is thermally conductive for ideal heat dissipation in heavy traffic systems and can be optionally treated with NORD’s state-of-the-art NXD tupH® Sealed Surface Conversion System.
High-Efficiency Electric Motors
NORD high-efficiency electric motors increase reliability and flexibility with extensive configuration options including encoders, brakes, sensors, and more to perfectly match application requirements. IE3 asynchronous motors are available with powers from 0.16 – 75.0 hp with smooth surface versions going up to 1.5 hp. IE5+ synchronous motors offer powers from 0.5 – 15.0 hp with permanent magnet technology that provides constant torque and efficiency over a wide speed range, even with partial load operation and low speeds. This technology enables significant energy savings, reduced operating costs, a fast Return on Investment (ROI), and the reduction of system variants. A ventilated version (TEFC) is optimized for heat dissipation while a smooth surface variant (TENV) offers easy cleaning for wash-down environments and can be treated with NXD tupH Sealed Surface Conversion System for further corrosion protection in primary packaging systems.
DuoDrive Integrated Gear Unit and Motor
The DuoDrive integrated gear unit and motor combines a single-stage helical gear unit with a high efficiency IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motor in one compact, space-saving housing design. The smooth surface offers easy cleaning and can be treated with NXD tupH Sealed Surface Conversion System for wash-down protection in environments that require strict hygiene standards. DuoDrive provides high power density, quiet operation, and simple Plug-and-Play design for quick commissioning and easy maintenance. Intelligent Electronic Control Products
Electric drives play an important role for packaging machines, conveying packaging material, driving tools, forming and sealing packages, as well as monitoring and controlling the overall packaging process. Decentralized NORDAC ON/ON+ variable frequency drives were designed to meet the requirements of horizontal conveyor technology. NORDAC ON is made for use with IE3 asynchronous motors while NORDAC ON+ is optimized for combination with high-efficiency IE5+ synchronous motors. These variable frequency drives provide an economic solution for IIoT environments thanks to an integrated multi-protocol Ethernet interface for easy integration, full PLC functionality for drive-related functions, and parameterization possible via a plug-in control module.
NORDAC PRO SK 500P variable frequency drives are control cabinet solutions designed to handle a broad range of applications with scalability functionality, versatility, and flexible connectivity. Their compact, book-size design is ideal for space-saving installation, enabling side-by-side positioning without gaps. 10 frame sizes provide a performance range of 0.33 – 200.0 hp and compatibility with both three-phase asynchronous as well as IE5+ synchronous motors. Basic variants (SK 500P) offer full internal PLC functionality for drive-related tasks, a CANopen interface, an energy-saving function, and integrated POSICON positioning for precise control of systems such as filling, sealing, labeling, and strapping machines. Advanced versions feature an integrated multi-protocol Ethernet interface that easily connects to Ethernet-based control systems in IIoT environments and enables individual parameter configuration. Functional safety options, such as STO and SS1, are additionally available for versions SK 510P and above, safely shutting down the machine to prevent hazards.
LogiDrive – the Complete Drive Solution
LogiDrive provides a complete, modular drive solution that is user-friendly, standardized for reduced system variants, and easy to service and perform maintenance thanks to full Plug-and-Play functionality. The solution combines a compact gear unit, high efficiency electric motor, and dynamic variable frequency drive configured to specific application requirements. Advanced versions utilize IE5+ synchronous motors to achieve full savings potential in partial load and partial speed ranges, reduce system variants thanks to the constant torque, and lower the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Basic versions include IE3 asynchronous motors and primarily focus on cost efficiency.
Condition Monitoring for Predictive Maintenance
Condition monitoring technology from NORD is integrated directly into variable frequency drives that record drive and status data either periodically or continuously. This gathered information can be used to derive important information about the drive and approach maintenance from a status-based perspective rather than time-based, effectively reducing unplanned downtimes, optimizing overall system efficiency, and providing longer service life for components and machines. Even the ideal time to change the oil can be determined through virtual sensors. External communication is additionally available via Industrial Ethernet dialects for threshold values and general status information.
