R-48 NanoPlus Micro Module Servo Drive
Copley Controls, a global leader in the motion control industry, announces the release of its R47 and R48 NanoPlus Micro Module servo drives. These rugged versions of Copley’s commercial NPS drive are engineered to endure temperature extremes, high humidity, vibration and shock, expanding Copley’s compact Nano family with a hardened platform built for space-constrained applications.
The R47 communicates over CANopen, while the R48 communicates using CANopen application protocol over EtherCAT (CoE), giving system designers a choice of industrial network while sharing the same FPGA-based NanoPlus architecture, mechanical footprint and feature set. Both drives are available as a bare micro module for direct mounting to a user PC board or pre-assembled to a ruggedized EZ board.
Models operate from 9 to 90 Vdc or 20 to 180 Vdc input, with continuous current ratings up to 35A and peak current up to 70A, delivering continuous output power up to 3.15 kW and peak output power up to 6.3 kW.
Additional features and specifications include:
- Bare module size: 1.38 x 1.18 x 0.86 in and 1.2 oz.
- Safe Torque Off (STO) with SIL 3, Category 3, PL e conformance.
- Operating temperature: -40° to 70°C.
- Vibration to 3.85 grms; shock to 75g (crash), 40g (operating).
- 16-kHz current loop update; 4-kHz position and velocity loop update.
- Seven high-speed digital inputs; six high-speed digital outputs.
- Encoder interfaces: BiSS, SSI, EnDat, Absolute A, Sin/Cos, digital quadrature, digital Halls.
- Built-in Ethernet on the R48, with UDP, TCP-IP, Modbus-TCP and Ethernet/IP support.
The R-Series drives are designed to conform with IEC 61508 (SIL 3), ISO 13849-1 (Category 3, PL e), IEC 61800-5-1/5-2, IEC 61800-3 (EMC) and RoHS, as well as MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1275 and MIL-STD-1399. UL recognition and other agency approvals are pending. The drives are well suited for COTS military, nautical, aviation, oil refining and vehicle-based systems operating in harsh environments.
