Amentum has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to enter negotiations for a phased lease to construct an integrated artificial intelligence and energy infrastructure project at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in South Carolina. Once finalized, the public-private project will establish a 1-gigawatt artificial intelligence data center supported by approximately 2 gigawatts of on-site energy generation.

Phased Power Generation and Facility Infrastructure
The project framework utilizes a phased energy generation model to match high-density computing loads. Initial electrical generation will rely on natural gas power infrastructure, creating a bridge solution to support operational speed while advanced nuclear energy systems are developed and brought online. The co-located power generation architecture is engineered to deliver continuous electricity for high-throughput AI server clusters without placing demand constraints on external regional power grids.

National Security and Operational Capabilities
The initiative addresses the technical dependencies between artificial intelligence processing, energy resilience, and national defense applications. Advanced computing workloads require dedicated, resilient energy infrastructure to execute continuous processing routines.
