TDK launches 1500 W wide-range AC-DC modules

TDK Corporation has introduced a new generation of AC-DC power modules designed for industrial, lighting, and building automation applications.

The TDK-Lambda PFE1500FB series delivers 1500 W output and supports a wide input range of 85 to 305 Vac, enabling operation on standard 277 Vac industrial power systems.

Wide input range and thermal design
The modules are engineered for environments where conventional cooling methods may not be practical. A metal baseplate allows operation in sealed enclosures or systems using conduction or liquid cooling.

The five-sided case design supports improved thermal management and reduces radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI), contributing to stable operation in demanding installations.

Digital control and system integration
The PFE1500FB series integrates a PMBus interface with read/write capability, enabling remote monitoring and configuration. Key adjustable parameters include output voltage, overvoltage, overcurrent, and undervoltage thresholds.

Additional system-level features include:
  • Remote on/off control
  • Power good signal for system diagnostics
  • Auxiliary output voltage (9.5–14 V, 200 mA)
Modules can also be connected in parallel using droop mode current sharing, allowing scalable power configurations.

Electrical performance and efficiency
The modules offer an adjustable output voltage range of 38.4 to 57.6 V, with typical efficiency reaching 92% at 230 Vac input. Low no-load power consumption of 2 W supports energy-efficient system design.

The units are compatible with 50, 60, and 400 Hz input frequencies, making them suitable for a range of industrial and specialized applications.

Compliance and safety standards
The power modules meet multiple international safety and compliance standards, including IEC/UL/CSA/EN62368-1, and carry CE and UKCA markings.

They also comply with EMC and immunity standards such as EN55032-A and IEC 61000-4. Electrical isolation ratings include:
  • 3000 Vac input-to-output
  • 2500 Vac input-to-ground
  • 1500 Vdc output-to-ground
These specifications support deployment in systems requiring high reliability and safety.

Applications and industry relevance
The PFE1500FB series is designed for use in:
  • Test and measurement equipment
  • Semiconductor manufacturing systems
  • LED displays and lighting infrastructure
  • Laser systems and RF power amplifiers
The combination of wide input range, high efficiency, and digital control supports integration into modern industrial and electronic systems.

Outlook for power electronics
As industrial systems become more connected and energy-efficient, power modules with integrated monitoring and flexible deployment capabilities are increasingly important.

The introduction of wide-range, digitally controlled power supplies reflects the growing need for adaptable and scalable power solutions in advanced industrial applications.
