Amphenol-Socapex boosts quality accreditation

India plant wins EN9100/ISO 9000, while Thyez facility gains ISO 14001

Amphenol-Socapex’s facility in India has gained the EN9100/ISO 9000 quality certification for aeronautic and space manufacture.

The Pune factory in India employs 120 people and makes aeronautical connectors (MIL 38999 and MIL 26482). Gaining EN 9100/ISO 9000 at this plant is part of the Amphenol-Socapex group objective of guaranteeing the same quality standards across all of its sites.

At the same time, the group’s Thyez site in France has renewed its EN 9100/ISO 9000 certification, as well as obtaining ISO 14001, the environmental quality standard.

Amphenol connectors are coated with a variety of metal ion surface treatments (cadmium, chromium VI and nickel) to protect them while in use. These metals can harm the environment, so to resolve this problem the French factory has installed a waste treatment plant.

At the same time, the company is leading developments to replace cadmium with nickel/Teflon, tungsten and zinc/nickel alloys – which offer similar levels of salt spray resistance and electrical conductivity.

It should be noted that addressing such environmental concerns is not a legal obligation. However Amphenol-Socapex wants to be seen as a model organisation. This isn’t simply a case of tackling the problem of damaging pollutants, the company has instigated a major step change in the way it operates.
