ifm Launches O3M with Human Classification

ifm, a leading provider of sensors, controls, and software for industrial automation, announces the launch of its new O3M camera with Artificial Intelligence to automatically detect and classify humans to enhance the safety of mobile machines. The latest 3D camera expands ifm's line of obstacle detection technologies, which aim to increase the safety standards of mobile machines in any extreme weather condition.

Machine builders and users can reduce downtime and lower operational costs by adding the O3M with AI to their machines. Users can optimize their machine's functionality by using sensor data to automatically brake or reduce vehicle speed, avoiding collisions with people or objects before an operator can react.

"The robust algorithm inside the camera provides critical, additional layers of protection for workers and equipment by simplifying visual feedback for machine operators," says Kevin Vanderslice, Executive Director of Sales for the Mobile Machines industry.

The O3M AI combines both a 3D sensor and a 2D sensor, and the onboard algorithm fuses the data to create an optimal view for the operator. This dual-sensor approach ensures high reliability while minimizing false alarms. The 2D sensor captures a typical video signal, while the 3D sensor verifies object detection, and AI highlights people detected in the view. Using the intuitive Vision Assistant software, users can configure the sensor and customize the logic to display various overlays in the video stream.

Customers can integrate the O3M with AI to help their machine react and prevent a collision or improve visual feedback for operators. To get started, customers will need to purchase the O3M372 sensor, an O3M970 IR illumination unit, a power supply, and a connection cable.
