REXUS Pulsating Heatpipe System developed by Aavid Thermalloy’s Italian Design Center in conjunction with the European Space Agency has been launched from the Esrange Space Center in Kiruna, North Sweden. It’s one of two prototypes manufactured for the INWIP Project (Innovative Wickless Heat Pipe Systems) in order to study the behaviour of a Pulsating Heatpipe System in micro-gravity conditions.
Aavid has developed a new range of heatsinks in extruded aluminium to satisfy the growing need amongst our customers for improved performance and efficiency. High Fin Ratio extrusions overcome the limits of findensity in traditional flat-back extrusions, resulting in an increase in performance when operating in forced convection.
In response to the need to cool electronics with progressively higher heat density and reduced spaces but at the same time improve performance, Aavid Thermalloy has developed a range of both standard and customizable products to satisfy all these requirements.
Proliferation of electronic devices has been accompanied by the steady shrinking of their dimensions, so engineers are constantly under pressure to design more power into a smaller space and are often faced with added complications because tolerances between the hot components and cold surfaces which can be ±20 % or greater.
Thermal management applications such as heat sinks, electronics enclosures, leak tight liquid cold plates etc. require characteristics such as high thermal conductivity, low porosity, leak tightness, and the ability to fabricate thin walls and tall fins.
Over the past decade Aavid Thermalloy has pioneered heat pipe technology and its application, developing a high quality manufacturing process to ensure long life and reliability in its heat pipes.
