Smart drive resolves blockages on its own
Bargteheide – Intelligent drives from NORD DRIVESYSTEMS with an integrated PLC are fully equipped to execute control sequences in customer applications. Featuring numerous sensor interfaces and extensive diagnostic as well as process control functions, they can detect blockages and in many cases independently restore normal operation. This improves system availability and reduces servicing requirements. If the drive is able to remove an obstacle, such as a blockage in a pipe, by repeatedly changing the motor speed and direction, it will then resume normal operation. If the problem persists, the inverter can submit an error signal to the control level and possibly initiate a fallback procedure, for instance by having other networked drive units unlock a bypass. Any such measures can be programmed individually specific to an application. This gives users independently operating, intelligent plant segments and machinery such as sorters, portioning and packaging systems, single pumps or groups of pumps, crushers, or screw conveyors. At the same time, optimum integration into automation networks is ensured. The inverter PLC can pre-process drive and application data for a higher-level controller for various uses including diagnostics. NORD provides low-maintenance, versatile distributed drive electronics with exceptionally good electromagnetic compatibility for synchronous and induction motors up to 22 kW.

Drive technology at Hannover Messe: condition monitoring and predictive maintenance
Bargteheide – Drives with advanced condition monitoring capabilities that support predictive maintenance have been showcased by NORD DRIVESYSTEMS at this year's Hannover Messe exhibition. NORD employs frequency inverters with an integrated PLC to monitor the complete drive system, evaluate sensor data, and assess the system state by means of intelligent algorithms. An industrial gear unit demonstrates the condition monitoring approach based on sensors and dedicated evaluation technology. Vibration and oil sensors provide crucial live data about the wear and tear. Vibration analysis then enables conclusions about the state of the bearings as well as the gearing, and oil analysis can help determine when the lubricant needs changing.

AC vector drives ULC certified for the Canadian market
NORD DRIVESYSTEMS AC vector drives up to 90 kW have been certified by Underwriters Laboratories of Canada. This is in addition to the existing UL certification for the United States and allows for more efficient drive configuration for the North American market, because the additional line filter that was previously necessary for use in Canada is now no longer required. Users gain various benefits: cost savings, faster wiring, reduced space requirements, and simplified configuration. NORD offers a highly versatile range of drive electronics for all applications and industries, featuring a series of cabinet AC vector drives for motor outputs up to 160 kW and two decentralized inverter lines for field installation with models up to 22 kW. The intelligent controllers provide an integrated PLC, scalable functionality, and flexible interface options.
