The technology group Voith and the Spanish electricity generation company Iberdrola recently signed a contract to modernize a total of five pump turbines for the Spanish hydroelectric power plants Torrejón and Valdecañas located on the River Tajo.
German paper manufacturer Progroup AG has successfully commissioned the PM 3, one of the most modern packaging paper machines in the world, at the company’s Sandersdorf-Brehna facility in Saxony-Anhalt.
Recently, Voith and Snowy Hydro agreed to collaborate for the Murray 1 power station and create a smart hydropower plant by installing acoustic sensing equipment to monitor and protect hydropower assets.
Paper manufacturer Laakirchen Papier AG demonstrated its future focus and adaptability by rebuilding its PM 10 from recovered magazine paper to corrugated medium in 2017. The company is now entering the age of digitalization with a large-scale project. The partner for the project, which is expected to transform the Laakirchen plant into a model digital site, is the Voith Group, which has been actively driving digital transformation in the paper industry for years.
Since February, the two systems have already been running reliably for over 6,000 hours, improving not only the overall efficiency of the drive train but also significantly decreasing noise emissions and vibrations. This is another milestone for Voith in pushing ahead with the continuous electrification of its proven drive technologies, thus meeting the growing demand for energy-efficient variable speed drives in the power and oil & gas markets.
Voith extends its range of OnCare.Health monitoring solutions to include an easy-to-use system for industrial fan and pump drive trains. It employs state-of-the-art sensor technology and connected components to increase the system’s availability. Further, it allows for easy and reliable monitoring of operating data as well as use in advanced IoT applications such as predictive maintenance.
Eletrobras Eletronorte, Latin America's largest power utility company, is using Voith’s monitoring system OnCare.Health Hydro at the Belo Monte hydropower plant in Brazil. Commissioned in 2019, the system provides highly accurate data analysis and machine diagnostics as well as real-time monitoring of different components in the plant. A unique deep database and user-friendly visualization thus allow for early error detection and condition-based maintenance.
Starting in 2022, a series of 18 new low-floor trams will be put into operation in Würzburg, with Voith selected to supply the electrical equipment. Voith is thus helping to increase the long-term viability of a sustainable public transport system for the customer, Würzburger Straßenbahn GmbH.
In collaboration with the research and service institute Papiertechnische Stiftung (PTS) Heidenau in Germany, Voith is introducing a new measuring method to detect unwanted tacky contaminants known as stickies.
