WEAV3D Inc., an innovator in composite materials, manufacturing processes and processing equipment, has been awarded a $200,000 Technology Enhancement for Commercial Partnerships (TECP) supplement to its 2021 National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II grant. The new award focuses on the use of WEAV3D’s woven composite lattices to enhance the performance and sustainability of natural fiber polypropylene (NFPP) composites for automotive applications.
WEAV3D Inc., an innovator in composite materials, manufacturing processes and processing equipment, has been awarded a $999,943 National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II grant. This two-year award will fund the design, fabrication and testing of a continuous composite forming machine that uses ultrasonic welding to increase the production throughput of WEAV3D’s patent-pending continuous composite forming process.
WEAV3D® has partnered with Global Alliance Automotive (GAA) AG to promote the use of WEAV3D’s lightweight, locally tunable structural composites in the automotive industry. These materials are a cost-effective alternative to traditional composites, steel and aluminum, and can increase vehicle fuel economy and electric vehicle range.
Oldcastle Infrastructure, a CRH Company and leading provider of infrastructure products, has approved WEAV3D composite lattice material for reinforcement applications in their polymer concrete and SMC composite products. Ideal for underground energy, transportation and communication applications, WEAV3D composite lattice is a completely non-metallic reinforcement material that provides high levels of durability and strength, as well as resistance to corrosion and other environmental conditions.
