STEEL MILL IN BRAZIL INCREASES PRODUCTIVITY USING HIGH-QUALITY ABB MOTORS
Baldor-Reliance AC motors from ABB offer advantages such as high availability, reduced space and low maintenance and operating costs.
The use of Baldor-Reliance® AC motors from ABB motors helps Steel Warehouse Cisa keep its production moving without unexpected downtime, producing the best end product for its customers.
Steel Warehouse Cisa (SWC), a joint partnership between Brazil's largest private trading company, Cisa Trading, and U.S.-based steel service center Steel Warehouse, is a company in the steel sector, located in Paulínia, in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil, which operates in the processing of steel coils, producing high-quality sheets for application in various segments, such as agricultural machinery, construction equipment, mining, road and rail transportation, among other various machines and equipment.
In search of reliable motors for a robust process, the company found in ABB's Baldor-Reliance line of motors the quality and robustness needed to meet the complexity of the production process from the start of its operations in Brazil.
In Brazil, the company has an unprecedented solution for processing steel coils to obtain a final product of the highest quality. The application, called temper pass, consists of producing steel sheets with the best dimensional tolerances, high flatness and minimized residual stresses. With a monthly production capacity of 20,000 tons, with an active, uninterrupted operation that requires great precision, robustness and high performance, it is necessary to use the best equipment to obtain a high level of quality in the material produced.
"Since the beginning of our operations in Brazil with this process, we have chosen ABB motors, which we consider to be of high quality, providing stability and robustness to guarantee safe operation without unexpected downtime," says Decio Costa, CEO of Steel Warehouse Cisa in Brazil.
The SWC plant has 35 motors from the RPMAC and VS Master families, which work under mechanical and electrical stresses that a conventional motor would not be able to withstand. Some of these motors operate with a variable speed drive with constant torque from zero speed, which was previously only possible with large DC motors. Today's AC motors guarantee reliability and torque precision, as well as space savings and simplicity in installation, operation and maintenance.
As production cannot change and cannot stop, the company also chose to guarantee operation even during times of maintenance on its line, purchasing eight new spare engines to guarantee the same quality in its finished product.
ABB electric motors are designed to work in all applications, from the simplest to the most robust, demanding and complex. The Baldor-Reliance range offers a laminated steel structure with high power density and customized power and speed ratings to meet the most demanding requirements of variable speed, torque and power applications.
Digitalization: the perfect combination to maximize operation
All the motors in operation at Steel Warehouse Cisa are monitored with the ABB Ability Smart Sensor, which provides precise data and analysis on the energy consumption, mechanical and electrical condition of the equipment, guaranteeing a longer service life, optimized performance and energy efficiency, reducing maintenance costs and increasing operational safety.
Digitalization gives all industries the information to make better operational decisions and manage costs. Basing decisions on accurate data and its expert analysis leads to improved health, performance and energy efficiency, as well as reduced CO₂ emissions from equipment.
Electric motors throughout the country
ABB has a wide network of partners throughout Brazil, with distribution in all regions. In this project, we have relied on Eletrovema Motores e Bombas, a partner of ABB Brazil for more than ten years, which has the entire portfolio of ABB electric motors, bringing a great deal of safety and reliability to the various industries and applications in the country.
